The South Atlantic SIG was formed in October 2006, by Janet Cox.

The SIG is the culmination of a long series of ideas and discussions that started when Janet read the book Through Fire and Water - HMS Ardent:The Forgotten Frigate of the Falklands, the story of HMS Ardent in the Falklands War. That led to building a model depicting the attack on the 21st May 1982. In building the model she contacted members of the crew through the Ardent Association, who gave her great help in answering some searching questions about the day that must have brought back a lot of memories - some probably very unpleasant ones.

So the interest in the Falklands War grew, and the idea of a Falklands SIG was born. The scope was increased to cover the South Atlantic, to introduce other aspects of the geographical area and extend the historical coverage as well.  With 2007 being the 25th Anniversary of the Falklands War our main theme for the year will be British Forces in the Falklands War.

See the Events page for the places and dates that the SIG will be displaying.

Our interests cover the South Atlantic Islands, i.e. Ascension; St Helena; Falkland Islands; South Georgia etc. and the South Atlantic Ocean and Antarctica.

Visit the Showcase galleries to see some of our work.

Membership of the SIG is free, though if you want newsletters posted to you then please send four stamped addressed envelopes for the year.
